Better than Neeley, I thought. Didn’t quite beat Ian Gillan, I think. Still fantastic!

@k4sei You mean better than Balsamo, nowhere near Neeley. Balsamo is no rock singer. Mr. Nolan can do rock. Neeley can do rock. Balsamo can whine, and squeal like a pig.

Better than Neeley, nowhere near Steve Balsamo.

excellent. I’m getting my tickets. Can Paul do Judas as well ? – I don’t know which part is more important and Judas, Judas is a bit theatrical.

I like Paul Nolan quite a lot. You can hear in some of his note choices that he’s studied Ted Neeley’s versions while making it his own. Good balance between rock and sustainable singing. Wish I could say the same for Josh Young’s performances…

@enterthedome He is not holding back! Listen to it again and watch him. Understand that he has to perform this numerous times, he needs to preserve his voice.

@TheJakeStern to clarify, he sings with an already rock voice while trying to sustain it for all of the shows he has to do… If he sang (or screamed like you want him to) he would lose his voice. This is more than being more “rock”. It is about adding elements of rock while trying to preserve the voice… and he does an amazing job… I saw the show 8 times in Stratford and Paul was, by far, my favorite lead…. Amazing Job Paul.

@trebonius3 I agree, people don’t understand what is going on with Jesus at this moment in the show. His voice is so perfect for this part… its rocky but not so rocky that it takes away from the difficulty of the song. It is absolutly amazing what Paul can do… I saw it 8 times in stratford, he was by far my favorite lead.

Hey, do none of you know what is happening in this song? Jesus is struggling internally. It is a fight between him an God. Look at this from an actors perspective… Paul has done some amazing things with this part. Ps if he sang this song “pop” or “rock” (which he is doing) he would ruin his voice… He is amazing. Go see it.

I think he comes across as rather unemotional, stiff and stary-eyed. I’m missing the high notes that I’ve heard from most other singers like Balsamo and Prottey-Jones.

@trebonius3 there obviously more emotional on stage this is a concert but they are amazing

@trebonius3 I agree, I wouldn’t call him unemotional. There’s subtlety here. Even so, I think he’s really holding back vocally.

@SpotlightKid83 Wow. how can you possibly say this is not a very emotional performance? the quiet intensity of this continues to amaze me every time i watch it. he’s great on here. he’s great live. i think it’s my favorite Jesus i’ve seen. can’t wait to see it again.

I’ve seen this performer do this live at Stratford – it’s amazing LIVE! Go see it! I can’t recommend this production enough!

Damn, probably one of the least emotional performances I’ve seen of this song. If he wouldn’t have sung it so technically correct, I’d think it’s a karaoke bar :-(
